HAMPTON- Monday night saw an early-season clash of two Carter County middle schools on the hardwood.
The visiting Warriors from Happy Valley had plans for a sweep after the girls claimed victory, but a dominant performance from the boys made for an even split during Monday’s affair.
The girls tilt got off to a very slow start with very little offense going to either team. A couple of three-pointers from Cayden Anderson and Lacey Byrd were about all the points either team saw in the first quarter as the Warriors led 8-1.
The second quarter was much of the same as all three points scored went the way of the Jr. Lady Bulldogs as a bucket from Taylor Berry made the score 8-4 heading into the break.
To start the third, the Lady Bulldogs tried to turn around the game as Berry would score three of her team-high seven points and Macy Henry would pour in three of her five points and the two teams were level heading into the final frame.
The fourth quarter saw the Jr. Lady Warriors plant their feet and finish off the game once and for all as Byrd would score five of her game-high eight points in the period, and a 9-3 run to close the game meant another win for Happy Valley, 19-13.
Hampton received one point from Lindsay Hardin while the Jr. Lady Warriors received six points from Marcida Thompson and two points from Tayna Byrd.

The boys game saw less of a competitive affair as the Jr. Bulldogs look to build in perhaps taking home some postseason hardware come late winter. It was a tall task for the Warriors who looked lost.
The first half was all Hampton as Dylan Trivett continued his good season as he was hot from everywhere with 12 of his eventual 17 points were dropped in the first 12 minutes.
Big Hayden Campbell also continued his onslaught with 11 of his 13 in the first as well.
Trailing 25-5 after the break, Happy Valley tried to mount any offense as Colton Johnson chipped in four points in the third quarter but the Warriors still trailed 37-15 heading into the fourth.
The final frame was merely a formality as Drew Blevins added four points for the Warriors late but it was to no avail as the Bulldogs won 40-22.
Happy Valley got seven points from Dakota Grindstaff with Joseph Sowards (3), Tucker Shoun (2), Donovan Maxwell (4), and Jaryn Gouge (1) balancing the scorebooks for Happy Valley.
The Jr. Bulldogs received seven points from Michael Anspaugh while Chance Point and Dominic Burleson contributed four and one points respectively.
