Rocky Fork State Park plans First Annual Hikers Jamboree

Rocky Fork State Park at Flag Pond will have its First Annual Hikers Jamboree October 19 with a day of fun-filled hikes, lunch, wilderness games, speakers, and an introduction to fly fishing by Trout Unlimited.

Hikes scheduled for the day include:

– Sunrise Hike from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. led by Bob and Sharon Fuller

– Creek Walk from 9 a.m to 10 a.m. by TN State Park Ranger Marty Silver

– Hike to Appalachian Trail from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. by TN State Park Ranger Jeff Sweeney

Naturalist Connie Deegan will present a program on Snakes of Appalachia from 10 a.m to 11 a.m. after which Friends of Rocky Fork will host an open house, lunch, and wilderness games from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A program on bear management will be presented from 1 to 2 p.m. by TWRA Black Bear Support Biologist Janelle Muser, followed by a program from 2 to 3 p.m. by NPS Ranger William Caldwell on Thru-Hikers of the American Revolution.

An Introduction to Fly Fishing will be presented by Trout Unlimited from 2 to 3 p.m.

The jamboree will end with a presentation of the Rocky Fork Story from 4 to 6:30 p.m. by David Ramsey.

All programs are free and will be held at the Rocky Fork Ranger Station. Registration is required due to the limited seating at the ranger station. Booths will be set up throughout the day so visitors can talk with presenters if they are unable to attend the presentation program or have any follow-up questions.
