HAPPY VALLEY – Fans from all over the area have turned their sole attention to prep basketball.

One school, Happy Valley, got things going on the hardwood at home Friday night against the Johnson County Longhorns in both boys and girls contests.

As always, the girl’s squads started things off, and it was a slow start to the affair as the first point came two minutes into the game.

The Lady Longhorns came out of the gate firing and taking an early lead in the first stanza, but the Lady Warriors were keeping things close, eventually taking the lead to close out the quarter, 8-5.

The second quarter saw Johnson County close the gap just a bit, but the Lady Warriors would widen things just before the half, going into the locker room with a 19-15 advantage over the visitors.

After the break, the Lady Warriors would open the floodgates, going on a 15-2 run and eventually closing out the quarter with a big lead, heading into the fourth with a 38-23 lead.

In the end, the Lady Warriors were able to maintain their lead and close out the first game with a win, 47-26

In the win for the Lady Warriors, Holly Moore led the charge in the win with 14 points, followed closely by Marcida Moore and Kadie Bailey who both put up 13.

After a short intermission, it was time for the boy’s contest to take place, and it was the home team Warriors who would strike first in a matchup that was once again back and forth.

Things would quickly change though as the Longhorns surged to go up 10-2 halfway through the first, and eventually 18-4 at the end of the quarter.

The second quarter of play showed a continuation of the Longhorns’ dominance as they increased their lead only 20 seconds into the quarter while holding the Warriors on defense to go into the break with a 32-17 advantage over the home team.

Coming out of the break, the Warriors surged as they began to come back from their fifteen point deficit to make it a slim 44-37 Longhorn lead going into the final quarter of the contest.

The Warriors would continue their comeback efforts in the fourth, but eventually, they would be overwhelmed by Johnson County as the Longhorns would go on to win, 63-49.

Despite the loss, the Warriors had players put up good numbers, including Alex Lunceford who scored 14, and Andrew Clawson with 9 points.
