The Milligan University Concert Choir and a cappella ensemble, Heritage, will close out the academic year with a concert titled “All Things New” on Saturday, April 26, at 7:30 p.m. in the Mary B. Martin Auditorium located in Seeger Chapel.
The concert will include a variety of songs that explore the themes of hope and light. The concert’s title stems from Elaine Hagenberg’s composition “All Things New” with lyrics by Frances Havergal.
“The lyrics for ‘All Things New’ are a poetic adaptation of Revelation 21:5-6 that speaks of the ways that God will make all things new for his creation,” says Dr. Noah DeLong, professor of music and conductor of the concert choir and Heritage.
Other musical selections include “Celtic Invocation” by Timothy Stephens, “Morning Star” by Arvo Pärt, “River of Life” arranged by Heather Sorenson, “Great Day” arranged by Stacey V. Gibbs, and “I Will Rise” arranged by Craig Courtney and Lynda Hasseler.
Several songs will feature solos by senior music students Max Brown, of Chuckey, Tennessee; Hannah Decker, from Limestone, Tennessee; Madeleine Haagen, of Johnson City, Tennessee; Ryan Jamerson, of Jonesborough, Tennessee; and Anna Shelton, from Kokomo, Indiana.
“I am proud of the talent and hard work of our singers this year, and we look forward to sharing this performance with the community,” said DeLong. “Audience members will be impressed by the variety of musical styles, including gospel, minimalism, pop a cappella, Romanticism and spirituals.”
The concert is free and open to the public.
