MORRISTOWN — The National Weather Service (NWS) in Morristown, Tennessee, has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for portions of East Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, and Southwest North Carolina as a strong cold front is set to move through the region tonight.
Key Weather Impacts
- Tonight: A mix of rain and snow is possible before daybreak Sunday across parts of the Cumberland Plateau and western areas of Lee and Wise counties in Virginia. Any snow accumulations during this time are expected to be very light.
- Sunday Morning: Rain is expected to transition to snow behind the cold front. The middle to upper Tennessee Valley and upper Plateau may see up to an inch of snow. Significant snowfall accumulations are likely in the mountains of Southwest Virginia and East Tennessee. - Sunday Night and Beyond: Dangerously cold air will settle into the region behind the cold front, with sub-freezing temperatures expected to last through midweek. Wind chills near zero are anticipated across much of the area, with values nearing 15 below zero in the mountains Sunday night.
