Regardless of the sport, put Elizabethton and Greeneville together, and you have the definition of a high school rivalry. Such was the case Thursday night as the Cyclones and Greene Devils met for a claim to the district title. Unfortunately for the Lady Cyclones, they came up short in the heated match.

In a loud, raucous gym where every point received an eruption of cheers, the Lady Cyclones fell in the championship match, 14-25, 18-25, 18-25. Ava Wilbur and Allie Stout led the attack with four kills each, while Jocelin Julian chipped in with nine assists, and Zyleigh Bates recorded nine digs.

Postgame, Lady Cyclones Coach Greg Abarientos reflected on his team’s efforts and looked ahead to a Tuesday matchup in districts against Volunteer: “We fought hard, just came up short. We made a lot of mistakes tonight that we have to clean up. Our season isn’t over yet, though. We have to shift our attention to our region game next week and refocus to deal with the mistakes we made,” Abarientos shared.
