Friday night’s game against Cherokee was one in which the Elizabethton Cyclones showcased their many weapons in the run game, and one of those is junior Jaiden Wallin, more affectionately referred to as “J-Bird.”

After Friday’s game, some might even want to revive the nickname he was given at T.A. Dugger: “J-Train,” a nod to the way he carried defenders on his back on the way to the end zone.

After missing most of last season due to an injury at Morristown West, Wallin has shown great signs of moving past that injury and returning to his bullish running style, surprising opponents with bursts of speed as well.

In Elizabethton’s game against Cherokee this past Friday, J-Bird demonstrated both sides of his game, taking a handoff and outrunning the Chiefs defense for a 48-yard score.

Later in the game, Wallin came around the left side of the Cyclones offensive line, met a would-be Cherokee tackler, and stunned the defender with a forearm shiver, planting him on his back as Wallin scored his second touchdown of the night.

He finished the game with 111 rushing yards on 13 carries, leading the Cyclones’ ground attack.

For his effort, Jaiden “J-Bird” Wallin has been selected as this week’s Cyclones Player of the Week.
