Herbert Morris Greer, 88, Watauga, Tenn., passed away unexpectedly Monday, May 22, 2023, at his residence.
He was a native of Butler, Tenn., and was a son of the late Wiley and Elva Triplet Greer.
Herbert was a member of the Roan Street Church of God in Elizabethton. He had worked for Interstate Foundry and retired from O.G. Kelly Machine Company.
Herbert was a veteran, having served his country in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed gardening, singing and playing music, fishing, reading, traveling with his wife, Ann, and spending time with his daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved the Lord with all his heart.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Darrell Greer; his brothers, Glenn, Orvil, Tom, Butler, Richard Truett and Harry Greer; and his sisters, Mary Greer, Gladys Blackburn, Irene Greer and Trula Mae Greer.
Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Ann Brummitt Greer; his daughter, Sheila Lyons and her husband Mark of Johnson City; grandchildren, Jennica Norman and husband Andrew and Josh Smalling and wife Hillary; great-grandchildren, Emma and Laurel Smalling, Judah, Elias, Greer and Maren Norman; his aunt, Dorothy Greer; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Herbert will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, at Roan Street Church of God, 113 N. Roan Street, Elizabethton, Tenn., with Pastor Ken Bewley and Pastor Jody Bewley officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until the service hour. Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 25, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Josh Smalling, Mark Lyons, Andrew Norman, Brandon Kent, Keith Greer, Tony Sandridge and Eddie Manning. Honorary pallbearers are Larry Kennedy, Jim Ellis and Charles Bradley.
