NEWPORT (AP) — A former corrections officer has been charged with conspiring to harm an inmate, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations said.
The TBI alleges that Joseph Tyree, 24, conspired to have a male inmate assaulted while Tyree was serving as a Cocke County Sheriff’s Office corrections officer. The request was carried out on Dec. 3, 2020, by several inmates, causing bodily harm to the victim, the TBI said in a news release.
A Cocke County grand jury indicted Tyree last week on charges of conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, official misconduct and official oppression. He was arrested, but it was not clear whether he is represented by a lawyer who could comment on his behalf.
