A new drug recovery organization is forming in the tri-cities region, and they are putting their name on the map with an inaugural resources event.

Carter County Drug Prevention Director Jilian Reece said Recovery Resources formed out of adult members of CCDP.

“Some of them are part of the coalition,” Reece said.

New enough to not have a real headquarters or even a phone number just yet, Recovery Resources formed out of a desire to provide drug addiction resources to people in need in East Tennessee.

“People often ask us ‘Where do I get resources?’” she said. “They want to figure out what’s out there.”

While Reece said they assisted Recovery Resources in their early stages, she said the organization is not officially affiliated with CCDP. They are their own organization.

However, she said the members of CCDP who formed RR are in recovery themselves, which she said adds another layer to what the new organization can do.

“What I find is the most successful is people who come to a place where they want to give back to others,” Reece said. “They can use their stories to create change.”

The community event is basically a resources fair with some extra activities. Reece said professionals will give talks about various options available to those in recovery and/their families, as well as more personal story-telling opportunities from people who have struggled with addiction in the past, as well as a silent auction and a dinner.

“This is an opportunity to learn more,” Reece said. “There will be Narcan training as well as networking with families in the midst of recovery.”

She said the event is also open to general members of the public as well, so they, too, can leave better informed of who to recommend to potential friends and family who may suffer from addiction.

The event itself will take place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Memorial Park Community Center in Johnson City, located at 510 Bert St.
