William Edison “Bill” Bunton, 75, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at his residence. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Raud and Helen Ruth Medaris Bunton.

Bill served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era. He served in the recovery of Apollo 10 and 13. He was a graduate of Elizabethton High School and East Tennessee State University.

Bill was retired from the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center as a nursing assistant. He was a member of Harvest Baptist Church and the DAV.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister: Larry Jack Bunton, Linda Sue Greene and Ray Bunton.

Survivors include his wife, Maria Bunton; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Sarah Bunton, Knoxville; and two grandchildren, Nevaeh and Isla.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, May 5, 2025, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery (Historic Site) with Pastor Jeff Wilson officiating.

Active pallbearers will be David Bunton, Jason Bunton, Caleb Blevins, Travis Bailey, Eric Koruschak and Chris Wright. Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Carver, Henry Shoun, Bobby Jo Oliver, Tom Pleasant, Wayne Muncey and Bill Bunton.

Military honors will be provided by the Veterans Honor Guard of the Tri-Cities.

Family and friends may register their presence at the funeral home Sunday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m. Monday.
