Junior members of the Boys & Girls Club of Elizabethton/Carter County transformed the parking lot into a bustling car wash operation last Thursday, raising $300 to fund an upcoming Family Paint Night.
On April 17, enthusiastic young club members eagerly cleaned dirty vehicles with sponges and hoses while community members stopped by to support club youth.
“We are thrilled with the support we received from the community,” said Charlene Ray, director of resource and development. “The juniors worked hard, and it’s wonderful to see their efforts pay off to support an evening with their families.”
Families will gather in the club’s art room, which will be transformed into a lively art studio for the evening, filled with creativity and laughter. Each participant will receive their own canvas, paintbrushes and a palette of vibrant colors. The event will feature a local artist who will provide step-by-step guidance, ensuring that even those with no previous painting experience can create something beautiful to take home.
“We designed this event to be accessible for everyone, regardless of artistic ability,” explained Hayley Ramsey, certified art practitioner. “Our goal is to create a relaxed atmosphere where families can disconnect from screens and connect with each other through art.”
Out of all the activities they could have chosen to earn this money for — many of which wouldn’t involve their parents and families — the juniors opted for a fun evening with their loved ones. This car wash is a shining example of the club’s unwavering commitment to meaningful youth development and family engagement activities. Spending time with family is crucial for children’s overall development, fostering their emotional, social, moral, educational and physical health.
