Robert “Floyd” Broyles, age 91, of Elizabethton, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at his home. Known as Floyd to most people, he was born in Sullivan County, Tennessee, to the late Henry and Nell (McGee) Broyles. In addition to his parents, Floyd was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty (Mitchell) Broyles; several brothers; and a great-grandson, Michael Wyatt Broyles.

Floyd retired from North American Rayon in Elizabethton and was a United States Army veteran. He was very proud of his service to his country. Floyd was a very hard worker, and when he wasn’t at work, he was working around the house or helping his neighbors. He was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church of Elizabethton and, above all else, loved his family and spending time with them.

Those left to remember and cherish Floyd include his son, David Broyles; his grandchildren, David Michael Broyles, Jared Stewart Broyles, Sara Broyles and Bethany Broyles; his great-grandchildren, Ava Greer, Grayson Cole Broyles and Colsen Gray Broyles; his siblings, Haskell Broyles, Conley Broyles, Norma Broyles and Edith Scalf; a special friend, David Curtis; and several other family members and friends also survive.

A celebration of Floyd’s life will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, April 7, 2025, at Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy English officiating. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel prior to the service on Monday.

A graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. David Curtis will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations in Floyd’s memory to any veterans nonprofit, Ballad Hospice caregivers and staff, or Teresa Hammitt, who was always there to give her love and care.
