Hampton splits road games against Unicoi Blue Devils

ERWIN — The Hampton Bulldogs traveled to Unicoi County on Saturday night for a doubleheader against the Unicoi Blue Devils, splitting the results as the Lady Bulldogs secured a 44-36 victory, while the boys team fell 64-50.

Lady Bulldogs edge Lady Blue Devils

In a tightly contested defensive battle, the Lady Bulldogs started slowly, trailing 6-4 at the end of the first quarter. However, they found their rhythm in the second quarter, taking the lead into halftime. By the end of the third quarter, Hampton maintained a narrow 26-23 advantage. A strong defensive effort in the final period helped the Lady Bulldogs hold on for the win, improving their season record to 9-4 and dropping the Lady Blue Devils to 8-8.

The Lady Bulldogs showcased resilience and teamwork in the victory, capitalizing on key defensive stops and converting opportunities in the second half.

In the boys game, the Unicoi Blue Devils came out firing, hitting several three-pointers to jump to an 18-9 lead after the first quarter. Hampton fought back in the second quarter, cutting the deficit to 36-28 by halftime. However, the Blue Devils’ hot shooting and strong play extended their lead to 11 points heading into the fourth quarter. Unicoi pulled away late to secure a 64-50 win.

The loss dropped the Bulldogs to 10-5 on the season, while the Blue Devils improved to an identical 10-5 record. Despite the defeat, Hampton showed determination in battling back against a tough Unicoi team.
