“Tonight, I think we showed some growth,” Anderson said. “We are still a work in progress, but we are working hard in practice to get better. Alex was big on the boards tonight, and I’m not scared to go into the paint even though they are bigger than we are.”

The Lady Warriors (4-10 overall) trailed 13-8 after one quarter but surged to pull even by halftime at 21-21. East (1-7) took a 28-27 lead into the fourth quarter, but senior guard Josephine Zeoli knocked down a huge three-pointer as Happy Valley pulled to within 35-31 with 4:05 remaining in the contest.

Anderson then hit a two-point jumper and a pair of free throws as the Warriors finished off a nine-point run to take a 37-35 lead. Alex Moore and Anderson each hit one of two from the free-throw line to extend the lead to 39-35.

After a three-point play from Emma Whittaker, Zeoli drove into the lane for a layup that made it 41-38, and Happy Valley was able to hang on defensively for the win.

“Shaniece Gardner was big inside, and the girls really asserted themselves,” Lady Warriors head coach Dana Hill said. “Cayden does a great job night in and night out. She has great leadership skills, and Zeoli was big in our run with a three-pointer, and that runner in the lane put us over the top.”

Happy Valley (2-11) stuck around in the first half, trailing 33-26 at the break, but strong shooting from the Patriots enabled Sullivan East (4-9) to pull away in the second half. Blue Proffitt nailed six three-pointers for his 18 points as East went into the fourth period with a 52-43 advantage, and the Warriors couldn’t keep pace offensively.

Kaden Hicks hit three three-pointers in the first period as East built a 24-18 lead but missed on his last six attempts from long range. The Patriots finished 13-for-34 (38.2%) from beyond the arc. Ron Paul Parker led the Warriors with 15 points before leaving with an ankle injury. Lane Parker added 13 points for Happy Valley.

For East, Riddlehour scored 17 points, with post player Eli Hubbard adding 13.

“Hats off to them. We came here to stop No. 24 and No. 50, but they made some tough shots,” Warriors head coach Shane Williams said. “We tried to mix it up defensively with some zone defense, but they live and die by the three, and they made them tonight.”
