John Allen Holtsclaw, 62, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at his home. John was born in Avery County, N.C., to Della (Lee) Holtsclaw and the late Jack Holtsclaw. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Buster and Dimple Lee, and his paternal grandparents, Bruce Banner and Ida Holtsclaw.

John was a painter by trade and enjoyed collecting antiques and hunting for them. He loved riding his bicycle, hunting arrowheads and loved his dog, “Louie.”

Those left to cherish John’s memory include his wife, Esther Reed of the home; his children, Jaydon Holtsclaw, Seth Holtsclaw, Tyler Ballard, Stacy Bailey (Andy), Kerri Ledford and Kelsey Reed; his grandchildren, Esmae, Selene, Ryder, Kasen, Maggie, Amiah, Eliza, Liam and Hazel; his sisters, Tena Hicks (Phillip), Sherry Holtsclaw, Ann Guinn and Alice Owens (Joe); his brother, Steve Holtsclaw; and his special friends, Ed Harris, Jim Gardner, William Street and Ed Moser. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members also survive.

A memorial service to celebrate John’s life will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 14, in the Tetrick Rhododendron Chapel with Ed Moser officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service.
