Lady Wolves steal one from Lady Cyclones in overtime

The Elizabethton Lady Cyclones hoped to notch a much-needed win Tuesday night to halt their recent struggles when the West Ridge Lady Wolves visited John Treadway Gym for a non-region matchup.
Coach Lucas Andrews’ team looked poised to do just that through three quarters, but the Lady Wolves had other plans. The visitors from Sullivan County tied the game at 60-60 at the end of regulation and dominated the overtime period to secure a 72-64 victory.
After a sluggish start in the first quarter, Elizabethton rallied to take a 25-24 lead at halftime, powered by 10 points from Reagan May. Kayleyn Nave added seven points to help build the lead for the Lady Cyclones.
Addison Bunn kept the Lady Wolves within striking distance, scoring nine of her team’s 24 first-half points. Carter Jones added six points for West Ridge.
The third quarter saw a back-and-forth battle as both teams traded leads. The Lady Cyclones edged the Lady Wolves 20-19 in the period, with Nave scoring five points for Elizabethton and Jones pacing West Ridge with 10 points.
West Ridge managed to catch the Lady Cyclones in the final quarter, tying the game at 60-60 as the buzzer sounded to signal overtime.
In the extra period, the Lady Wolves came out strong, quickly turning the tie game into an eight-point win.
Jones led West Ridge with a game-high 27 points, while Kyleigh Mitchell and Bunn finished in double figures with 14 and 11 points, respectively.
Nave paced the Lady Cyclones with a team-high 16 points. Rylee May added 14 points, Reagan May contributed 12, and Jamira Smalls scored 11 to give Elizabethton four players in double figures.
Adrian Heading (5), Peyton McGee (4), and Sydney Minton (2) rounded out the scoring for the Lady Cyclones.
