To the Editor:
I voted in the general election and climate change is a major issue for me. I never expected extreme weather events to impact our Northeast Tennessee home so soon. My husband and I along with our neighbors lost our private bridge which was our only access to our home. We are still without a bridge and must hike a 1 mile round trip when we cross a foot bridge to get groceries, see doctors or dentists or take our garbage to the Carter County Landfill. Fortunately, we were prepared for Helene with a generator, several rechargeable flashlights, a well stocked pantry, satellite internet, and a cell phone. We still do not have our home phone and were without electricity for 14 days. Through the generosity of friends and relatives, we were able to borrow a car, have large trees removed from our driveway and have food and gas delivered.
Please ask our legislators to help us avoid more storms like we had by sponsoring and voting for bills that will help bring down the chances of horrible loss of life, loss of property and high economic impact.
Sincerely,
Norma Morrison
