NASHVILLE – Tennesseans affected by Tropical Storm Helene may be eligible for FEMA assistance to repair or replace a damaged vehicle. FEMA provides financial aid for essential disaster-related expenses not covered by insurance or other sources, including vehicle repairs or replacement if the vehicle was rendered inoperable or unsafe to drive by the storm. Cosmetic repairs are not covered.
Eligibility requirements include:
- Assistance is typically limited to one vehicle per household. If a second vehicle is essential, a statement must be submitted.
- The vehicle must comply with state registration and insurance rules.
- The applicant, co-applicant, or household member must own or lease the vehicle (not a rental).
- The vehicle must be a qualified type (e.g., car, truck, SUV, or van).
The application deadline is Jan. 7, 2025.
