MOSHEIM – Sophomore quarterback Lane Parker scored a pair of first-half touchdowns, and Happy Valley closed out the 2024 regular season with a conference 1-2A win, 38-0, over West Greene.
Sophomore Parker stepped in when quarterback Gabe McDougald fell ill and played a stellar game.
Parker capped off Happy Valley’s first drive—an eight-play, 50-yard series—with a touchdown, making it 8-0 after Jamie Esterline added the two-point conversion. Following a three-and-out by West Greene, Parker led a seven-play, 57-yard drive with a 12-yard scoring run, pushing the lead to 16-0 with Tyler Berry adding the conversion.
“When I first came on the field I was really nervous,” Parker said. “But after the first play, I was OK, and my nerves calmed down. I just put my foot in the ground, and they kept running past me. This feels great. Coach talks about the 2016 team, and it’s good that we finished with the same record.”
In the second quarter, junior running back Tyler Bailey scored on a 28-yard run. With under a minute remaining in the half, Parker connected with Esterline on a 47-yard pass down to the Buffaloes’ 1-yard line. Berry scored the touchdown and the two-point conversion for a 32-0 halftime lead. Happy Valley improved to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in Region 1-2A.
The second half was played with a running clock, and in the fourth quarter, Parker scored again on a 7-yard run to seal the victory.
“I’m so proud of these guys,” Warriors head coach Jason Jarrett said. “Lane stepped up when Gabe couldn’t go, and we overcame adversity. We have answered the call every game. Finishing 7-1 is a big plus for us going into the playoffs, and I’m proud of how we finished the game. It was important to get off to a fast start, and we did that.”
Berry rushed 18 times for 81 yards, with Parker adding 59 yards on 12 carries. For the Warriors, it was the team’s third consecutive shutout, having surrendered just 59 points all season.
