For the second week in a row, the Cloudland Highlanders fell in heartbreaking fashion, this time to the North Greene Huskies, 24-22.
The teams went into halftime tied at 8-8 after Grayson Cole scored on a 2-yard run midway through the second quarter. Cloudland had a chance to take the lead before the half but couldn’t finish a late drive.
In the third quarter, Cloudland took the lead when Cole capped off a 65-yard drive with an 18-yard touchdown run, putting the Highlanders up 14-8. However, North Greene regained the lead late in the quarter, 16-14, after a short touchdown run.
Cole once again gave Cloudland the advantage early in the fourth quarter with his third touchdown of the night, followed by a successful two-point conversion by Landon Barnette, putting the Highlanders up 22-16. However, North Greene responded with a touchdown of their own, retaking the lead at 24-22 with four minutes left.
Cloudland had one last chance but was unable to mount a final offensive drive. Cole finished the game with 224 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Kingston Cole and Gavyn Shell played strong defensively for the Highlanders despite the loss.
