Upcoming events at Sycamore Shoals Park

Among upcoming events at Sycamore Shoals State Park during the month of November include a Colonial Harvest Celebration November 9 and 10. The public is invited to join the festivities at Fort Watauga as the Washington County Militia gather to celebrate recent victories in the War for Independence and give thanks for a bountiful harvest.

The event will feature demonstrations of 18th Century life and living history demonstrations. 

Activities on November 9 will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on November 10 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

FALL FIBER SHOW

Also, the same weekend the Fall Fiber show will be held.

Fall is the time to plan winter projects and handmade holiday gifts. The public is invited to spend some time visiting the region’s finest fiber producers and artists.

The two-day event will include workshops, vendors with handmade items for sale, raw fibers, and demonstrations of spinning, weaving and more.

The show will be held in the park visitor center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

OVERMOUNTAIN CHRISTMAS OPEN HOUSE

The Overmountain Christmas Open House will be held at Sycamore Shoals State Park Saturday, Nov. 23, from 11 a.m to 3 p.m.

The open house will be held in the park’s visitor center. Enjoy historically dressed carolers, Christmas stories as well as a craft project the whole family can participate in. There will also be an opportunity to shop with local artisans and makers as well as the park’s gift shop and bookstore.

OLD-TIME MUSIC JAM

The monthly Old-Time Music Jam will be held Sunday, Nov. 24, from 1:30 to 4 p.m. when Art Lang and friends will present music of our region. Old-time musicians of all levels are welcome.

AFTER THANKSGIVING DAY HIKE

Friday after Thanksgiving, join the park interpretative staff for a special guided walk through the grounds of Sycamore Shoals State Park and along portions of the walking path. Hikers will enjoy the historical events that took place at Sycamore Shoals and its significance to the formation of Tennessee and America.

Portions of the walk will include grounds that may be flat or solid for people with mobility challenges.

Hikers will meet in the picnic area beside the visitors center, and are asked to dress appropriately for the weather.

Hikers, which will be limited to groups of 20, will meet at 10 a.m.
