Richard “Bud” O’Quinn, 70, of Watauga, passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2024. He was the son of Onie O’Quinn Lash of Elizabethton and the late Franklin D. Chapel and was born on March 7, 1954. In addition to his father, Bud was preceded in death by a grandson, Cody Campbell; his stepmother, Connie Chapel; and a brother, Junior Chapel.

Bud was the owner and operator of Richard’s Paint and Body Shop. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and dirt track racing. He was of the Free Will Baptist faith.  

Those left to cherish his many memories, in addition to his mother, include his wife of 54 years, Linda Greene O’Quinn of the home; two daughters, Tracy Campbell (Jimmy Presnell) of Elizabethton and Stacy Keeling of Johnson City; four grandchildren, Jonathan Rexrode (Chelsea) of Sweetwater, Tenn., Jessie Campbell of Watauga, Jenny Dean (Rusty) of Bristol, Va., and Maggie Keeling (Crystal) of Bristol, Tenn.; two special great-grandchildren, Raelyn Rexrode and Colten Rexrode, both of Sweetwater, Tenn.; three siblings, Deb Benfield (Robert) and John Lash (Toni), all of Elizabethton, and Carol Payne (Bill) of Johnson City; several nieces and nephews including a special nephew who was like a son to Bud, Eric O’Quinn (Gina) of Elizabethton; and a special friend, Patsy Presnell.

A service to celebrate Bud’s life will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, October 21, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Kenny Lethcoe and Pastor Ken Hauser officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, prior to the service, or at the residence, 190 Vanderbilt Drive, Johnson City, TN 37601 at other times.  

The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 22, at the Scalf Cemetery in Watauga. Active pallbearers will be Jonathan Rexrode, Jessie Campbell, Eric O’Quinn, Jimmy Presnell, Jackie Hughes and Roger Tolley. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Stines, Howard Rumley, Terry Hamm and Eddie Campbell. Everyone will meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Prabha Long for the care given to Bud during his illness.
