R.L. Poole, 74, Elizabethton, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at his residence. R.L. was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Walter and Vada Black Poole.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Dugger, and two brothers, Romulas Poole and Bob Poole.
R.L. was a graduate of Hampton High School. He was a pastor and served many churches and served the Lord in his community. He was a valued employee of Memorial Funeral Chapel for 24 years.
Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Scotty Poole and wife Matina, and favorite son, Hotrod; grandson, Matt Poole; and great-granddaughter, December Poole. He is also survived by several nephews and nieces. He will be missed by his funeral home family, as well.
A service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, October 21, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Nathan Jennings and Pastor Eric Heaton officiating. The family will receive friends and family from 6 to 7 p.m., prior to the service. Interment will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 22, at Lakeview Cemetery. The family requested everyone meet at the funeral home to go in procession. Active pallbearers are Matt Poole, Brandon Shepard, Brent Shepard, Chris Wright, Landon Britt and Bobby Long. Honorary pallbearers are past and present employees of Memorial Funeral Chapel, Wayside Baptist Church and Bob Campbell.
