NASHVILLE — Gas prices across Tennessee surged by 12 cents over the past week, bringing the state’s average to $2.85 per gallon. This marks a 10-cent increase from one month ago, though prices remain 30 cents lower than this time last year.

“We’re likely seeing the effects of crude oil prices wobbling higher in the form of gas price increases across the state,” said Megan Cooper, spokeswoman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “However, even with the increases we saw over last week, we’re still seeing prices 30 cents less expensive than we were at this time last year.”

National Gas Prices

Nationally, the average price for a gallon of gas rose by three cents to $3.20, as large parts of the country face back-to-back storm damage. While Hurricane Helene and the impending Hurricane Milton will not severely affect national gasoline supplies, they will likely impact demand in areas with damaged infrastructure, flooded roads, and power outages.

Internationally, tensions between Iran and Israel are contributing to fluctuations in oil prices, though no steady upward movement has occurred.

Oil Market Dynamics

Crude oil inventories rose by 5.8 million barrels, while total domestic gasoline stocks fell from 221.2 million to 214.9 million barrels. The price of WTI crude oil closed at $73.24 per barrel, down by 33 cents.
