South Greene defeats Happy Valley in defensive battle, 21-6

In an old-school defensive struggle, both teams found it difficult to get their offenses going. South Greene was held to just 112 yards, while Happy Valley managed only 96 yards in the first half. Passing was particularly challenging, as both teams were held to under 20 yards through the air in the opening half.

South Greene finally broke the deadlock with three minutes left in the third quarter. Rebels quarterback Jacob Susong scored on a 4-yard keeper, putting South Greene up 7-0 heading into the final quarter. The Rebels added two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter to extend their lead to 21-0, with tailback Trip Neas scoring on runs of 18 and 13 yards.

Happy Valley managed a late score when Gabe McDougald found the end zone on a 1-yard run off right tackle, narrowing the final score to 21-6. The Rebels outgained the Warriors 266-148 in total yardage. Despite the loss, Happy Valley’s James Esterline finished the night with 96 yards on 10 carries.
