The Tennessee Department of Human Services (TDHS) announced today that it has received federal approval to issue replacement benefits for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) customers located in the following counties: Carter, Clay, Grainger, Hancock, Hawkins,

Johnson, Unicoi, and Washington.

In response to potential loss of existing food due to flooding, power outages and other natural disaster impacts, SNAP recipients in these affected counties will receive 65% of their September 2024 SNAP benefits automatically deposited to their EBT card on October 8. SNAP households in Carter, Clay, Grainger, Hancock, Hawkins, Johnson, Unicoi, and Washington counties who experienced food loss beyond the 65% replacement amount can request an additional replacement benefit by submitting an Affidavit Request for SNAP Replacements Due to Household Misfortune and Power Outage.

SNAP households located in counties affected by Hurricane Helene, but not listed above, can also submit an Affidavit Request for SNAP Replacements Due to Household Misfortune and Power Outage. These replacement benefits are available for existing SNAP recipients who:

– Lost food due to a power outage of 12 hours or more

– Lost food due to a household misfortune

If SNAP households have questions or need assistance, they can visit the nearest TDHS office or the nearest Multi-Agency Resource Center (MARC) site.
