Tropical Storm Helene’s confirmed death toll in Tennessee has risen to 12, the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency said Sunday, but there have been no confirmed storm-related fatalities in Carter County.
According to TEMA, the Helene-related fatalities include five in Unicoi County, two in Washington, and one each in Greene, Knox, and Johnson counties. The report notes several county health departments have been closed due to the storm’s impact.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation reported that as of Sunday there are 15 active missing-person leads that the agency is coordinating with local law enforcement response: three each in Carter, Unicoi, and Washington counties, and six in Greene County. The TBI report explains the number does not represent the total of unaccounted individuals, just public leads that still need to be cleared.
