Elizabethton High School has suspended athletic and extracurricular events for the weekend, according to an emailed release.

“Due to today’s events and ongoing struggles in our community, we are suspending all athletic and extracurricular events for this weekend,” the school said in a statement. “It is important at this time that we focus on our families and our community. Thank you to everyone who has responded to assist our community. Your prayers are appreciated and felt.”

The release noted that the high school is serving as an evacuation shelter for those who have been displaced. Those in need of the shelter are advised to park in the student parking lot and check-in will take place at the gym entrance door.
