This fall, the works of Milligan University students will be on display in the Art Lab at the William King Museum of Art, the region’s premier visual art facility in Abingdon, Va.
The exhibit, “Type + Image + Motion,” will be on display through November 13, and it features standout pieces created by graphic design and interactive media students during the 2023-2024 academic year.
“It’s an honor to be invited to show our students’ work in the Art Lab at the William King Museum of Art,” said Art Brown, Milligan’s associate professor of graphic design. “Visitors can see the high level of our students’ work as well as the quality of our graphic design and interactive media design programs as we prepare our students for careers in the creative field.”
The exhibit will feature the works of 20 Milligan students, and each piece was selected by Milligan professors from the following Milligan courses – typography, digital illustration, interactive media design, motion graphics, pixel-based design and imagery, and advanced graphic design and branding.
The artists include seniors Kendall Arnold, Bluff City; Aiden Bailey, Summerville, S.C.; André Bazzana Semensato, of Brazil; Abbey Cartagena, Johnson City; Nicholas Hensley, Erwin; Samuel Kyker, Travelers Rest, S.C.; Kamdyn Lee, Kingsport; Brisa Lucas Pino, Johnson City; Lily Marr, Frederick, Md.; Ashley Roberts, Kingsport; and Eleanor Stoneham, Charlotte, N.C. In addition, the exhibit features works by Milligan juniors Adam Bengtson, Lake Villa, Ill.; Mary Grace Bitting, Waxhaw, N.C.; Ruth Leggett, Fort Worth, Texas; Joselin Martinez Rojas, Grundy, Va.; Grace Sanderson, Saint Charles, Mo.; and Margaret Tallon, Houston, Texas. Some works were created by class of 2023 graduate Ellie Ayers, Greenbrier; and class of 2024 graduates Judah Cooper, New London, Iowa; Brianna Marsh, Houston, Texas; and Emanuel Mogaya, Martinsville, Va.
The Art Lab at the William King Museum of Art serves as a meeting, learning and studio space for artists, creatives, designers and makers of all ages. The “Type + Image + Motion” exhibit will be on display on the walls of the hallway gallery and on-screen outside of the Art Lab’s digital media lab. The museum’s address is 415 Academy Drive NW, Abingdon, VA 24210.
