Thomas “Tom” Oxendine, 96, Elizabethton, passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at his residence after a brief illness.  A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late William Edward & Annie Lee Sims Oxendine.  

  Tom was employed at Inland Container for over 50 years.  In later years, he was employed part-time at Memorial Funeral Chapel.  In earlier years, he loved playing softball and bowling.  He had coached the softball teams.  

  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Marie Oxendine;  two sisters, Annie Oxendine and Wanda Crowe; and four brothers, Sam, John, Dan and Raymond Oxendine.  He was a member of Dungan Chapel Baptist Church.

  Survivors include several nieces and nephews.  One great great niece, Illiana; one great great nephew, Tristin; two sisters-in-law, Linda Kay Vaughn and Ruby Corder, and two brothers-in-law,  Howard Ensor and Ernest “Pete” Ensor.

  Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, August 23, 2024, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Eric Heaton officiating.  Greg Crowe will give a eulogy. Interment will follow in the Ensor Cemetery with R.L. Poole officiating.  

  Active Pallbearers will be Denny Grindstaff, Ron Walker, David Wood, Ronnie Ensor, Greg Crowe and Tommy Vaughn.  Honorary Pallbearers will be his many church friends, as well as his many friends and co-workers, and employees of Memorial Funeral  Chapel. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday prior to the service.  Condolences may be sent to the family at our website www.memorialfcelizabethton.com.
