Raymond C. “Ray” Brooks, 78, Johnson City, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at his residence. He was born October 3, 1945 in Elmira, N.Y., to the late Raymond A. and Beatrice Dibble Brooks. He had lived a number of years in Tennessee.
Ray was retired from American Water Heater. His hobbies were fishing, stock car racing and watching television. He was a member of Powder Branch Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Geraldine Elliott Brooks; his children, Melissa Ann Brooks, Jeffrey Scott Brooks Sr. and wife Michelle and Joey McKeehan and wife Penny; his grandchildren, Zachary Hyder, Wallace H. Brooks, Hannah Brooks, Jeffery Scott Brooks Jr., Jordan Fennessy and Katelin McKeehan; three great-grandchildren, Elijah Jones, Cooper Hyder and Zoey Hyder; two brothers and four sisters; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, August 16, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Doug Rasnick officiating. The graveside service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, August 17, in the Caldwell Springs Cemetery with Pastor Chris Hughes officiating. Music will be by Chris Hughes. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 2:50 p.m. Saturday, will be Wallace Brooks, Scott Brooks Jr., Zachary Hyder, Robbie Holly, Jeff Buckles and Adam Buckles. The family would like to express a special thank you to the Powder Branch Baptist Church Family for all their prayers and support during his illness. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, prior to the service. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 2:50 p.m. Saturday to go to the cemetery.
