A Carter County man faces multiple charges after he reportedly forced a woman into a vehicle at gunpoint and assaulted her.
Deputies of the Carter County Sheriff’s Office arrested David Frye, 31, of 118 Hillside Drive, Johnson City, and charged him with especially aggravated kidnapping, aggravated domestic assault, false imprisonment, and domestic assault.
Around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, a woman called 911 to report that her daughter was being held at gunpoint by Frye after he had forced her into a gold-colored SUV. Deputies located the vehicle and performed a traffic stop, placing Frye into custody on five outstanding warrants for his arrest. The warrants charged Frye with three counts of domestic assault, theft of property, failure to appear in court, and an attachment for contempt out of Juvenile Court.
Deputies then spoke with the woman who was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the traffic stop. Deputies stated the woman had visible bruising and marks on her neck and face. The woman told officers the incident began on Saturday when Frye assaulted her by punching her in the head and throwing her around the residence on Hillside Drive. She said Frye became concerned that someone had heard the assault and would call 911, so he forced her to get into the vehicle and they left the residence for a while before returning.
The woman stated after they returned to the residence on Hillside Drive, Frye eventually went to sleep but when he woke up he was angry at her again. She walked outside the residence to get away from Frye and called her mother to come pick her up. While she was on the phone with her mother, Frye came outside, retrieved a firearm from his vehicle, then placed the gun against her head and told her to get in the car. The woman said she got into the vehicle because she was afraid Frye would shoot her.
The woman told officers they went to a store to purchase cigarettes, and deputies stopped the vehicle while Frye was driving back to the residence on Hillside Drive.
Deputies searched the vehicle and located a firearm under the driver’s seat, discovering it was loaded with a round in the chamber.
Frye was charged with especially aggravated kidnapping, aggravated domestic assault, false imprisonment, and domestic assault in connection with the incident. He was taken to the Carter County Detention Center where he is currently being held without bond.
The three outstanding warrants served on Frye, charging him with three counts of domestic assault, stem from incidents that occurred on May 15, May 23, and May 24, involving the same female victim as this incident.
