Michael Lynson Garland, 76, Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, June 2, 2024, at his residence.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Raleigh and Luthenia Garland.

Michael was a graduate of Unaka High School. He loved working with wood work and going camping. He was a member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Wendy Garland.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Linda Powell Garland; a granddaughter, Sierra Buckles; his great-grandchildren, Payton Buckles, Aldlynn Buckles, and Avery Buckles; one sister, Patsy (Earl) Coup and Lillie Burke; and his sisters and brothers-in-law, Phyllis (Glen) Crain, Cleo Hicks, Brenda Rasmussen and Randy and Pooner Powell.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Eric Wright officiating. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 6, in the Garland Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Thursday, will be Melvin Myers, Kimmy Stout, Kevin Stout, Rondal Lowe, Randy Powell, David Myers and Dennis Grindstaff. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery.
