May 24
Senses of the Night Hike – 8 p.m. – 9 p.m. Meet at Shelter 3 in the campground. Price is $10. Join us for an after-hours nature tour through the forests of Roan Mountain State Park. Park Ranger Rodriguez will lead you through the dark on a 0.5-mile hike through the Tom Gray trail. We will be learning about how nocturnal wildlife have adapted their senses for the night and try our own hand at adapting to the night! From glow in the dark animals, starry nights, and turning over logs and rocks to find some of our park’s most secretive wildlife, this nocturnal prowl is fun for the entire family.
This activity is limited to 25 participants at a cost of $10 per person. Registered participants will meet at Shelter 3, located in the campground on the right once you pass the tennis courts. Guests are encouraged to bring sturdy hiking shoes, weather appropriate clothing, water, and a flashlight. Registration is required for this event.
Summer Concert Series: The Corklickers – 7 p.m. Meet at the Park Amphitheater. Our Summer Concert Series continues with music from the Corklickers!
Concerts take place at the park amphitheater at 7 p.m. on Fridays. Bring a blanket, camp chair or enjoy our bench seating. Concerts are FREE but tips for the artists are appreciated.
The Corklickers are a local, old-time string band playing mountain folk tunes you can dance and sing to. Featuring three fiddle players, banjo, bass and guitar.
May 25
Mushroom March: Mysteries of the Forest – 3 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Meet at Shelter 3 in the campground directly past the tennis courts.
These mysterious organisms hold amazing secrets. Discover the hidden world of mushrooms along this 0.5 mile hike along the Tom Gray Trail. Make sure to bring sturdy hiking shoes, long pants, and plenty of water.
Mushrooms are the great citizens of the forest! Along this hike we will discuss just how these mysterious mushrooms interact with the environment around them. If we listen to their stories close enough, we may learn a thing or two!
Registration is required for this event.
May 26
Raptors of the Roan – 2 p.m. – 3 p.m. Meet at the Park Office. Price is $0/person, $5/Donation (No Attendance), $5/Person+Donation, $10/Donation (No Attendance), $10/Person+Donation. Register for the event. On Sunday, May 26th from 2PM-3PM, join Roan Mountain State Park at the aviary (located at the park headquarters building) to meet our owl ambassadors and aviary staff. Participants will become familiar with the rich and unique diversity of birds of prey (raptors) found in the park and surrounding area of Roan Mountain. This is a great way to learn of many local raptor birding destinations and events! Of course, meeting our live education owls is an experience all its own!
Pets are not allowed in the vicinity of the aviary unless in the case of service animals at a distance set by the program staff.
June 1
National Trails Day Hike: Raven Rock Overlook – 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. Meet at the Park Office by the Conference Center. Price is $0/Person, $10/Attendee+Donation, $10/Donation (no attendance), $20/Attendee+Donation, $20/Donation (no attendance). Register for the event. Join Ranger Rodriguez along this 1-mile hike on the Raven Rock Trail to see views of blooming buds and an overlook along the way! What better way to celebrate national trails day than to enjoy your favorite state park!
This hike is considered moderately challenging with some elevation changes. It will take us approximately 1.5-2 hours to complete the trail. This program is fun for all ages, but guests should make sure to bring plenty of water, appropriate hiking shoes for terrain, and dress for the weather. Meeting Location: Park Office located across from the amphitheater.

Summer Concert Series: The Repossessed – 7 p.m. Meet at the Park Amphitheater. Our Summer Concert Series continues with music from The Repossessed!
Concerts take place at the park amphitheater at 7 p.m. on Fridays. Bring a blanket, camp chair or enjoy our bench seating. Concerts are FREE but tips for the artists are appreciated.
The Repossessed are an acoustic duo featuring Truman “Buzz” Dodge and Ellie Hjemmet. Favorites across our region, they perform Americana repertoire with acoustic guitar and striking harmonies. You won’t want to miss it!
June 24 – June 28
Junior Ranger Camp, Ages 8-12 – 8:30 a.m. – 12 Noon. Meet at the PIcnic Pavilion #2. Price is $55/Cloudland Elementary Students, $75/per participant. Register for the event. Registration Now Open! Learn about safety, plants, animals, bugs, astronomy, environmental stewardship, history and more! At the conclusion of the week each participant will be sworn in as an official Junior Ranger for Tennessee State Parks at our graduation ceremony and banquet.
Camp begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends by noon, Monday through Thursday. Our graduation ceremony and party will take place Friday night from 6-8:30 p.m. at the park Conference Center. An optional night hike will be offered Friday Night after the banquet (families welcome). Registration fee of $75 includes a T-shirt, daily snacks, and a fun awards celebration on Friday night. After registration closes on June 1, registrants will receive additional paperwork via email including a liability waiver, medical history form, and information forms for each child, as well as agenda details and pickup and drop off locations for each day. Registration open to kids ages 8-12 only. Refunds will be given for cancellations before June 1. After June 1, no refunds will be granted (T-shirts and supplies will have been ordered).
