The Elizabethton Lady Cyclones were looking to stay at the top of the Upper Lakes Conference softball race when they played host to the Lady Pioneers of David Crockett.
However, it didn’t turn out to be the Lady Cyclones day as visiting Crockett paired clutch hitting with a solid pitching effort from southpaw Madelyn Dulaney as the Lady Pioneers dealt Elizabethton a 12-0 defeat.
Crockett rapped out six extra-base hits on the day including a pair of homeruns that kept the Lady Cyclones left to claw their way out of a hole the entire game.
Dulaney, meanwhile, was twirling a dandy as the lefty set down 12 Lady Cyclones on strikeouts while only walking one batter. She allowed six hits to Elizabethton in a six-inning complete game effort.
Starting EHS pitcher Lela Byrd could only last for 2.2 innings in her start as Crockett plated seven runs, four earned, on seven hits and one base on balls.
Lilly McDuffie relieved Byrd as she tossed 2.1 innings allowing only one run on one hit. Mollie Johnson closed out the last inning of the contest as the senior allowed four earned runs on five hits.
The Lady Cyclones collected six hits on the day with Johnson leading the way with a 2 for 3 effort.
Emma O’Quinn, Byrd, Jozey Reece, and Mikina Blackwell added one hit apiece in the game.
Blackwell’s hit was a double off the wall for the only extra base hit for Elizabethton.
The Lady Cyclones fell to 13-7 on the season with the loss.
