Cyclone boys third, girls fifth at Tri-Cities Track Classic

The Elizabethton track and field teams continue to showcase why they are one of the top teams in the area, with both the boys and girls finishing in the top five in the Tri-Cities Track Classic held at Science Hill’s Steve Spurrier Field, out of a field of 21 schools.
The boys finished behind host Science Hill and Dobyns-Bennett, just ahead of Daniel Boone and Tennessee High.
Science Hill swept the meet, as the Lady Hilltoppers claimed first place in the girls’ events ahead of Dobyns-Bennett, Crockett, Tennessee High, and the Lady Cyclones.
In girls’ field events, Elizabethton’s Liahna Nave was a medalist, taking first place in the meet with a discus toss of 118-9.
Track medalists included Cadie Digby, who captured third in the 300-meter hurdles, finishing in a season-best time of 52.09.
The Lady Cyclones relay teams in the 4×100 and 4×200 meter relays also clocked season-best times. The 4×100 meter team finished third with a time of 53.84, while the 4×200 team also captured third place in a time of 1:53.99.
On the boys’ side, the Cyclone field athletes brought home three medals from the event as Landry Buckles and Diesel Russell finished one-two in the discus.
Buckles, the defending state champion for his classification, took top honors with a throw of 152-2, while Russell’s toss measured at 135-1.
Additionally, Zion Reddick finished second in the shot put with a heave of 46-10.5.
Max Garner’s season-best effort of 10:14.16 in the long-distance 3200-meter run paced medalists in track events for the Cyclones, as Garner earned second place for his effort.
Continuing in the long-distance portion of the meet, Elizabethton’s Jerry Behrmann ran a season-best time of 4:37.38 to take third place in the 1600-meter run.
In the 400-meter dash, Jeremiah Norris’ time of 51.22 was good enough for a third-place medal.
Closing out the list of medalists was the boys’ 4×800 meter relay team, which also logged a season-best 8:43.35, garnering a third-place finish.
The following teams participated in the meet: Ashe Co., Campbell Co., Chilhowie, Chuckey-Doak, Cocke Co., Daniel Boone, Dobyns-Bennett, Eastside, Elizabethton, Greeneville, Harding University, John Battle, Providence Academy, Science Hill, Sullivan East, Tennessee High, Unicoi Co., Union, and University School.
