The Milligan Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Kellie Brown, will present a spring concert April 13 highlighting music’s collaborative role in storytelling. This unique evening will feature music that either tells its own unique story or is composed as an exciting medium to retell stories from beloved books, stories, and folklore.
Literature featured will include musical interpretations of C.S. Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia, J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Edgar Allan Poe’s The Tell-Tale Heart, and Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. In addition, the concert will include Dario Marianelli’s musical score for Austen’s Pride and Prejudice and John Williams’ score for Memoirs of a Geisha.
The evening’s guest artist will be internationally renowned professional storyteller Dr. Hannah Harvey, who will guide the audience through each story and narrate Kenton Coe’s Genesis, a piece commissioned for the Milligan Orchestra.
The event is free and will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 13, in Seeger Memorial Chapel.
