Milligan senior graphic design majors will present a design showcase March 24-April 3 in the Milligan Art Gallery located in Derthick Hall. An opening reception will be held Sunday, March 24, from 2-4 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The showcase features graphic design work from seniors Joseph Dykes, of Johnson City, Tennessee; Brianna Marsh, of Humble, Texas; Emanuel Mogaya, of Tarime, Tanzania; and Austin Walker, of Casar, North Carolina. Each student’s finest print, digital, package, typographic and interactive designs will be featured.

The group selected the name “Manifold” for the showcase based on an observation by Marsh. She suggested the exhibition’s title because it “highlights the diversity in our work and our backgrounds.”

Marsh, a Goah scholar with a business administration minor, says “design captivated my interest because it combined creativity and purpose. I took a risk in my third year of college and switched my major to graphic design where I have been able to learn design tools in Adobe Creative Cloud, branding, product design, illustration, typography, publication design and so much more.”

The showcase serves as a final milestone for each graphic design senior. As they reflected on their time at Milligan, the seniors noted the versatility Milligan’s program provides and its commitment to Milligan’s mission of preparing servant-leaders.

“Graphic design at Milligan has equipped me with invaluable skills in critical thinking, communication and collaboration, shaping me into an adaptable designer,” shared Mogaya. “I am passionate about creating designs that not only reflect my interests but also contribute to positive change in the world.”

Milligan’s graphic design program teaches the elements of design and how to apply them across various media, as well as the fundamental skills, theories, principles and technologies necessary for design work. Central to Milligan’s major is an approach to the study of graphic design from a distinctly Christian worldview.

For several students, their faith in God was strengthened through their major.

“With every design, my goal is to challenge myself in a way that forces me to grow and improve,” said Walker. “In doing so, I seek to glorify God by making the most of the ability he has given me.”
