The Elizabethton-Carter County Public Library has unveiled a new online database featuring a treasure trove of historic recipes spanning Carter County’s culinary heritage.

Thanks to grant funding from the Tennessee Historical Records Advisory Board, the Archives of the City of Elizabethton partnered with Advantage Archives to digitize over 8,000 recipes sourced from local church, civic organization, school, and community cookbooks dating from 1935 to 2013.

Accessible through elizabethton.advantage-preservation.com, the fully searchable database offers a fascinating glimpse into Carter County’s past, showcasing its diverse culinary traditions and cultural heritage through the lens of food and cooking.

Archivist Joe Penza delved into the project’s details on the radio program “Vital Voices,” hosted by Fred Sauceman. The segment aired on WETS 89.5 FM on Saturday and Sunday. In case of missed broadcasts, recordings will be available for streaming at wets.org/podcast/vital-voices.
