A Gardening Seminar will be held at Sycamore Shoals State Park in Elizabethton from 9 a.m. until noon. The seminar, free to the public, will be held at the community room at the park. The subject of the seminar will be Vegetable Gardens. Master Gardener Ben Hunter will discuss how to grow vegetables to maximize yield with the least amount of effort. “There are things that you can do to accomplish each of these desirable benefits,” Hunter said. Pre-registration is requested and can be done by calling 543-5808. The event is sponsored by the Northeast Tennessee Master Gardeners and Sycamore Shoals State Park.

Boozy Creek Community Center, 1989 Shelleys Road, Bristol, Va., (276-466-0026) will hold a Traditional Ham and Turkey Meal at 4 p.m. The meal will include lots of traditional side dishes and a variety of desserts and drinks. Music will be provided by Danny Whited and New Circle Bluegrass from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Cathy Baker will be giving away door prizes at 4:45 p.m. For more information, call (423) 323-5266.

State Certified Instructor Ken Potter will hold a state certified Armed/Unarmed Security Guard Class on Saturday, ​March 16, beginning at 8:30 a.m. The class will be held at 135 Keenburg Road, Elizabethton. The class will consist of armed and unarmed training. The program also covers range qualification and renewal guard training. Potter has been instructing this class for several years​ and holds multiple certifications from the State of Tennessee. He says the class gives you the training you need to obtain a guard license. ​You should dress according to the weather.
