On Monday night, the Unaka Rangers celebrated Senior Night at Snavely Gymnasium while hosting North Greene in conference basketball action. The Rangers witnessed the Huskies connect on 13 three-pointers in a 71-38 defeat, while the Lady Rangers dropped a 50-27 contest.

“We got out-rebounded,” Rangers head coach Aaron Dugger said. “We didn’t crash the offensive glass. Many of their three-pointers came on kick-outs after an offensive rebound, and we didn’t shoot well from the free-throw line or beyond the three-point line. North Greene is a good team, and although we stopped their initial shot, we gave them two or three chances to score. We’ll see them again on Friday and assess where we stand.”

Huskies forward Jason Britton scored a game-high 33 points on 12-for-16 shooting from the floor (75 percent), including six-for-nine (66.7 percent) from beyond the arc. Unaka finished 13-for-36 from the field (36.1 percent) and hit just four-for-20 from three-point range (20 percent).

The first period ended tied at 9-9, but North Greene went on a 23-point run — outscoring Unaka 20-0 in the second quarter — and hit a three-pointer to open the third period before Rylan Crabtree’s basket broke the skid.

The loss dropped the Rangers to 10-19 overall and 2-4 in the conference, while North Greene improved to 16-14 overall and 4-2 in conference play.

Lady Huskies post Hannah Miller utilized her superior height to good advantage, scoring a game-high 17 points and pulling down 18 rebounds as North Greene won easily. The Lady Rangers shot poorly, hitting just six-for-33 (18.1 percent) from the field, including five-of-15 (33.3 percent) from beyond the arc.

In a pre-game ceremony, Unaka retired the number 10 jersey of Lyndie Ramsey, who finished her stellar prep career with 2,902 points. When asked about her favorite memory in a Rangers uniform, she said, “Probably when I scored my 2,000th point as a senior. This is very special to me being here with my family — we are very family-oriented. I want to thank my coaches and teammates. Last year was a tough one with sickness and surgery for a knee injury, but I am thankful for this honor.”

The first period ended tied at 9-9, but North Greene outscored the Lady Rangers 18-8 in the second quarter to take control of the contest with a 27-17 halftime lead. The Huskies extended to a 41-24 lead after three quarters and secured the win.

Kaitlyn Dugger scored a team-high 11 points for Unaka (6-21, 2-4 conference).
