STAR CORRESPONDENT
Hampton Bulldogs made short work of West Greene on Friday night at Van Huss/White Gymnasium as the Bulldogs celebrated Senior Night. The Bulldogs (15-9, 5-2 conference) secured a 67-42 win over the Buffaloes, with senior guard Michael Anspaugh leading the way with 21 points.
On the girls’ side, the Lady Bulldogs won easily 66-18, displaying superb defensive effort against a struggling young West Greene squad. Freshman post Joie Shipley played sparingly and scored just two points.
The boys’ contest was physical, as Braden McCamey had to leave in the second quarter after taking an elbow to the nose, which bled profusely. He returned in the second half and led the Buffaloes with 14 points.
The Bulldogs took a 20-7 first-period lead and extended to a 36-14 halftime advantage, with senior post Hayden Campbell scoring 13 of his 19 points in the first half. The ‘Dogs held West Greene in check defensively, and head coach Ned Smith was pleased with the effort, stating, “Our pressure defense was good tonight; we had 15 steals and didn’t let them get many good looks at the basket. Hayden was eight-of-11 from the floor, and Michael Anspaugh shot the ball well.”

The Lady Bulldogs were never threatened in this one as they opened with a 23-4 first-period lead and never looked back. Faye Carrico’s 14 points led the way, with senior post Taylor Berry scoring 13 points and fellow senior Macy Henry adding 12.
The ‘Dogs (15-9, 7-1 conference) took a 39-6 halftime advantage, with Berry scoring all 13 of her points in the first half. Berry was also honored with a ball for her 1,000 career points. She also eclipsed the 500 rebound barrier as well.
“It has been a lot of hard work,” Berry said. “But I owe it all to my teammates who pass me the ball. I have been blessed to have this group around me, and it has taken a lot of hard work and determination to get where we are.”
Guard Morgan Brown scored seven points to lead the Lady Buffaloes, with Katelyn Beginis adding five points for West Greene.
