“You don’t see triple overtime games very often,” Bulldogs head coach Ned Smith said. “We had five guys foul out, but I was proud of Hayden Campbell for hanging in with four fouls and not fouling out. We had a lot of guys step up and the freshman (Chance Davenport) hitting that three to tie the game in double overtime was big.”

The game was literally nip and tuck the entire way with the score knotted at 36-36 at the half. Hampton (10-9, 2-2) took a 52-45 lead going into the fourth quarter but the Rebels kept battling and kept the game within sight.

The ‘Dogs led 56-52 with 5:25 remaining after a deuce from Campbell but Roderick scored back-to-back deuces to tie the game before Campbell answered once again for a 58-56 Hampton advantage. Roderick dropped in a pair of free throws with 2.6 seconds left in regulation to force the first overtime session with the score knotted at 66-66.

Each team scored five points in the first overtime with Roderick hitting a trey to tie the score at 71-71 and a second overtime was necessary. In the second overtime, with South Greene holding an 83-77 lead, Campbell scored a three-point play, and Davenport nailed a triple from the sideline at the buzzer to force the third OT session.

The Rebels took an 88-84 lead on another Kelley trey and, after two free throws, had a 90-84 lead with 39.7 seconds left when Davenport hit a deuce in the paint for a 90-86 score. For Hampton, Campbell had a team high 26 points, with Michael Anspaugh adding 19 and Geno Carrico had 12.

Senior Macy Henry scored a game-high 20 points as the Lady Bulldogs (11-9, 4-1) scored a big conference victory. Hampton trailed 16-15 after the first quarter but the game was tied at 29-29 at the break.

“Macy hit some big shots,” Lady ‘Dogs head coach Dewayne Humphrey said. “She comes in the gym every day and works hard. Taylor Berry had some big free throws for us. We lost some games early on with missed free throws so that is something we have worked on.”

Hampton held a 45-44 lead going into the final stanza, and it continued to be tight, with the ‘Dogs leading 54-53 after a deuce from Lady Rebel guard Kortnei Bailey. Henry then hit a bucket and a pair of free throws for a 58-53 Hampton advantage.
