The Bonnie Kate Theater in downtown Elizabethton has a cure for the winter blues, offering a wonderful evening filled with original music and art on Friday, Jan. 26, at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are now on sale for Bonnie Kate Originals, an event featuring musicians and artisans’ original works. Funded by a grant through the Tennessee Arts Commission, this special evening will highlight the music of Alathea and singer/songwriter Richard Albright.
Rooted in the Appalachian Mountains, Alathea – Mandee Radford Langley and Christin Johnson – create and perform original and traditional music in what they call “front porch style” – using eclectic instruments and thick modern harmonies. Their music is filled with their engaging storytelling of life on the road, taking cues from nature, their families and neighbors along the way.
Alathea has performed throughout the United States and across the world in Europe and Asia, playing concerts, festivals and special events. The duo has won numerous acoustic music and songwriting awards, taking stories from their own lives and weaving them into music that is instantly relatable.
Born in California – but now a confirmed East Tennessean – Richard Albright has been a singer, songwriter, musician, actor and entertainer since the age of seven. Influenced by this parents’ record collection, his roots began with folk and gospel merging with rock-n-roll and punk rock. His music is submerged in the human condition.
Albright says he loves performing at the Bonnie Kate Theater and is pleased to be on its stage once again after singing and playing his guitar for the Bonnie Kate’s Spooktacular Variety Show this past October.
Local artisans will also be on hand to exhibit and sell their work in the lobby. Some of those planning to participate in the Bonnie Kate Originals music and art-filled evening are artists Laina Carlos and Marcia Ross; Felicia Gregory, (family photography and jewelry); Ray Burchette, (metalwork); Emme Johnson (burned felt designs and acrylics); and August Muse (variety).
A variety of refreshments will be available for purchase at the event, including cake and coffee.

Make Friday, January 26, a night out in beautiful downtown Elizabethton. Enjoy dinner at your favorite restaurant and then have dessert and enjoy a show at the historic Bonnie Kate Theater.
Lobby doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for perusal of the artisans’ work; auditorium doors open at 7 p.m. Emceed by William Danner, the show will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are $10 for ages six and up; children five and under are free. Tickets may be purchased through the Bonnie Kate Theater website (bonniekatetheater.org), under the events tab, or at the door.
