June Oliver Collins, 93, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away Saturday, December 16, 2023, at her residence. She was the daughter of the late William Clate and Maggie Nidiffer Oliver.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Maxwell “Mack” Collins; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Eston and Maxie Collins; and three siblings, Irene Oliver Taylor, Marilyn Oliver Bell and Steve Oliver.
In June’s early adult life she worked at Seven Hour Laundry and Dry Cleaning. She then went to work at HIS Sportswear, Levi Strauss and East Tennessee Chair Company. It wasn’t until later in life that she found her true calling as a private caregiver for others. June was a woman with strong faith and positive attitude. Her greatest desire was to be an inspiration and make a difference in the lives of others. She far surpassed this desire and her impact will live on in others.
She was a lifelong member of Blue Springs Christian Church. She loved to sing and was a member of a local gospel group Headed Home. She took great joy in singing at area churches and events. She also loved to cook, especially Sunday meals for her family and friends.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, April Collins of Telford, Tenn.; “adopted” daughters, Gayle White and Sarah White of Telford, Tenn.; six siblings, Martine Lewis, Shirley Morrell (Harold), Jearld Oliver (Sue), Larry Oliver (Nyoka), Lanny Oliver (Peggy) and Odell Oliver; sister-in-law, Phyllis Davis; best friend, Wanda Bowers; grand pups, Winston and Grayson; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service and interment will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 20, at Pearl Bowers Cemetery with Mr. Richard Thomason and Dr. James Richardson officiating. Music will be under the direction of Tina Davis Clemons and Vivian Hammonds. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 2:20 p.m. Wednesday.
An open visitation will be held between the hours of 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Tuesday, December 19, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may donate to any contribution to someone you see in need. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dawn Lowe and the Collins cousins for organizing and making her 93rd birthday special and a special thanks to Dr. Abigail Gass and staff, Ballad Home Health and Hospice, Oliver and Collins families and her caregivers, Gayle and Sarah White and Tina Clemons.
