Jewell Lea Lyon, 85, of Bluff City, Tenn., passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, surrounded by family who loved her. She was the daughter of the late James Sigman and Paralee Sigman. She lived a full life devoted to serving her family, church, and community.

She grew up in Chinquapin Grove, and it was there that she met her husband, Carl W. Lyon, married, and raised her two beautiful daughters, Teresa and Lucinda.

Jewell was an active member of her church and loved to sing in the choir every Sunday. Anyone who visited her was welcomed with open arms and invited to stay awhile longer. She loved taking care of those around her and took great joy in cooking for people and giving advice.

While she preferred to stay busy, Jewell loved to sit on her porch, enjoying the fresh air and sunshine. She was a dedicated letter writer and regularly sent cards to family and friends, just to let them know she was thinking of them. She easily brought many smiles to everyone she encountered.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Lyon, and daughter, Teresa Harrill (Brian).

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Lucinda Cullop (Sterling) of Johnson City, Tenn.; granddaughters, Ashley Powell (Adam) and Rebekah Buchanan (Wesley); great-grandchildren, Roan Powell, Rosemary Powell and Jackson Buchanan; one sister, Aileen Bulla (Jay); and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service and interment will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, November 27, at the Sunrise Cemetery with the Rev. Jamie Ferguson and the Rev. Rusty Verran officiating. Pallbearers will be close family and friends. The family would like to give a special thanks to her oncologist, Dr. Chakraborty, who thoughtfully and compassionately cared for Jewell in her long fight with cancer. The family would also like to thank the Amedisys nurses who cared for Jewell near the end. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Mission Ministry at Chinquapin Grove Baptist Church.
