Elk Avenue in downtown Elizabethton will be closed starting at 3 p.m. this Saturday for the “Parade of Champions.” The closure is to facilitate preparations by the Elizabethton Police Department and Elizabethton Street Department for the event. All vehicles must be cleared from Elk Avenue by 3 p.m.
The parade route will deviate from the Christmas parade pattern, commencing at the intersection of Riverside Dr. and Elk Avenue. It will progress up Elk Ave. to Lynn Ave.
Participants in the parade are advised to stage at East E. St., intersecting with Sycamore St. Parents with children joining the parade should approach Sycamore St. from Broad St., dropping off participants at the E St. and Sycamore intersection. Subsequently, they are requested to turn right on E Street to ensure smooth traffic flow.
The parade coincides with the lighting of the Fraser Fir sponsored by Carter County Bank, beginning at 5 p.m. Carter will initiate the lighting between 6 – 6:15 p.m. Additionally, the Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Department will host ice skating and food trucks as part of Skate by the Doe at Covered Bridge Park from 6 to 8 p.m.
Motorists and pedestrians are urged to exercise extreme caution due to the heightened activity anticipated during this event.
