After a record-setting performance by junior RB Dominique Burleson, who rushed for 354 yards to set a new school record and four touchdowns in Hampton’s 51-13 win over Eagleton Academy, the Bulldogs welcome conference rival West Greene to J.C. Campbell Stadium on Friday night.

“Dom played really well,” Bulldogs head coach Michael Lunsford said. “He turned what would have been one or two-yard gains into seven or eight-yard gains. And he did it consistently. West Greene runs a lot of stuff. They run a sort of Wing-T from the shotgun formation. They run a lot of heavy formations.”

Hampton (5-2, 3-0 conference) has won four in a row with three of those victories coming against conference foes and is averaging 51.5 points per game in those games. West Greene has been an up and down team this season, snapping a four-game losing skid with a 49-20 win over Cumberland Gap last week and will be looking for their second conference win of the season.

West Greene (3-4, 1-2 conference) has a power run game led by Ean Kieffer, who leads the Buffaloes in rushing and touchdowns and Lunsford had some good things to say about him saying, “He runs hard and they have a lot of beef up front. He is a good two-way player who plays defensive tackle and he is someone we have to pay attention to.”

The high-powered Hampton offense can score in many ways and Lunsford is proud of his squad’s ability to score in a lot of different ways and he said, “We try to take what the defense gives us. Last week Dylan Trivett didn’t throw for many yards but we didn’t need him to. We know that he can do it but we ran the ball so well that we didn’t have the need to throw it.”

West Greene has struggled offensively of late, being held to less than 18 points in four consecutive games before putting 49 points on Cumberland Gap. Eagleton held the Buffaloes to 18 points in a 21-18 and South Greene dominated in a 29-14 win and Unicoi County scored a 42-8 non-conference win.

Game time is 7 pm.
