The East Tennessee State University Marching Bucs received another surprise announcement from New York City: The ETSU Majorettes and Color Guard have been invited to perform in the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular on Nov. 27, 2024, the day before the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
This announcement comes just months after the marching band learned that it was one of only 10 bands in the country invited to perform in the 2024 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. It also will be the first collegiate band from Tennessee in more than 50 years to perform in the parade.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the students in our Color Guard and Majorette sections,” said Dr. Joe Moore, director of the Marching Bucs. “In addition to performing in the prestigious Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, they have been invited to open the performance of the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular while we are in New York City. I could not be more proud of our students being rewarded for the hard work and talent that has led them to this moment.”
Approximately 50 ETSU Color Guard members and Majorettes will participate in the Radio City Music Hall performance.
The surprise was revealed at ETSU’s first home football game of the season on Sept. 9, with a special video greeting featuring Performing Arts Consultants’ President Michael Mazzarisi and Vice President Sherry Mazzarisi.
“We’re all looking forward to your arrival and hosting the best band in the parade,” said Sherry Mazzarisi in the video.
Tickets to the performance will be available through the Radio City Music Hall box office in the weeks or months to come, and those participating in the band’s friends, family and alumni tour will receive a ticket as part of their package.
